Your Complete Guide to Macramé Plant Hangers (Plus Where to Buy, DIY & More)

If you’ve ever found yourself searching for macramé plant hangers — whether to buy, to make your own, or just for some inspiration — you’re not alone. As someone who’s been making macramé for 5 years now, I get asked about plant hangers all the time. So I thought I’d pull together this handy guide to cover everything from where to buy them, to making your own, and even what’s best for hanging plants outdoors too.

A large green plant in a ceramic plant pot, sits in a macrame wall hanging plant hanger, made with teal blue recycled cotton on a wooden dowel, against a beige wall.

Where to Buy Macramé Plant Hangers

You can sometimes spot macramé plant hangers on the high street — I’ve even seen them pop up in places like B&M, TK Maxx, or the odd garden centre. But if you’re after something a little more unique, shopping small is the way to go.

When you buy from a small business (like mine!), you’re getting something sustainably made, often with eco-friendly materials, and made with much more care and attention to detail than mass-produced versions. Plus, many of us small biz makers can offer custom designs, colours or sizes to suit your space perfectly.

I have a selection of handmade plant hangers available in my shop — you can browse them here.

Macramé Plant Hangers for Sale

Whether you’re after a classic hanger for a trailing plant or something chunkier and more decorative, there’s plenty to choose from. I’ve made everything from simple single hangers to layered, multi-pot versions.

If you’ve got something specific in mind, just drop me a message — I’m always happy to chat custom orders.

Macramé Plant Hangers with Beads

If you want a bit of extra texture or a boho vibe, macramé plant hangers with beads are a great choice. I sometimes add wooden beads to my designs, and they make such a lovely feature, especially if you’re hanging the plant hanger somewhere it can be admired up close.

Larger Macramé Plant Hangers

For bigger plant pots or to create more of a statement, large macramé plant hangers are ideal. They’re chunkier, sturdier, and usually made with thicker cord to hold heavier pots. I make larger sizes to order — just let me know the pot size you want to hang and I can recommend the best option.

Macramé Plant Hangers for Outdoor Use

If you’re looking for something to hang outside, you’ll want something that can cope with the elements. I make outdoor-friendly macramé plant hangers using jute — a natural, tough fibre that holds up better outdoors compared to cotton. Just bear in mind that no material is totally weatherproof forever, but jute is your best bet for outside use.

You can find my jute outdoor plant hangers here.
